As we are all aware the COVID 19 CORONAVIRUS is now reaching critical levels and we are keen to keep our members informed of the WRSC position.
We have been maintaining a close watch on Government advice (see web-link below *), RYA guidance and committee and member concerns and opinions.
To that end our current decision is to suspend all organised racing, open meetings and training events with immediate effect until further notice.
We are however mindful that, other than those needing to formally isolate as per Government stipulation, keeping fit and healthy is still very important. Sailing is a great outdoor activity and really helps keep mind, body and soul active.
This means that our current view is that if anyone desires to sail informally they can continue to do so, providing they adopt the required safety arrangements as detailed in Rule 8 of the club sailing instructions (see members Year Book) – ‘Where a patrol boat is not afloat members are advised to have another craft available on the water to give assistance as necessary’.
We also insist that the Governments ‘safe distance’ guidance be applied rigorously especially in the changing rooms where the use of disinfectant wipes for all surfaces touched should be adhered to as well.
That said this is a fast-developing situation and should the Government change its position such as stipulating an enforceable complete ‘lock down’ on all social gathering, we will follow any new requirement fully including stopping informal casual sailing.
On a positive note the committee will be looking at ways to keep communications flowing via our club Facebook page and we will encourage the sharing of any good ideas for helping each other through this difficult time.
Stay safe.
