Juniors at WRSC
There are a growing number of junior and youth members at West Riding Sailing Club covering a wide range of ages and sailing abilities.
The club strongly promotes family and juniors with a variety of activities and events throughout the year.
The club has a fleet of 10 boats that can be used by any junior member comprising: -
6 Oppis, acquired in 2008 through a successful grant application to ‘Awards For All'
They are the ideal boat for beginners, suitable for 4 - 16 year olds. The Oppis are a great boat for kids to learn to sail in.
Suitable for 8 years plus, suitable for all abilities. Toppers are an established class and enjoy a huge amount of popularity around the UK meaning a good supply of 2nd hand boats.
Each year the club runs a Family Camp weekend for all it's members, though targeted specifically at juniors and families, running from Friday evening until late Sunday afternoon. The camp weekend involves a number of activities including games, training, races as well as time for a BBQ and a social event in the evenings.
Organised sailing activities are run for our junior members on various days throughout the spring and summer months, with all the club boats made available with rescue cover and informal training, race and other fun and games for the participants.
At the end of each season, when the weather turns too cold for many of our junior members, Father Christmas pays a special visit to our younger members at the annual junior Christmas Party.
As well as the activities listed above, our junior members as encouraged to sail at all other times, whether racing on Sundays or Wednesday evenings, or cruising around on Saturdays.
